What does car export to Spain cost? Our rates and the costs there
Here are all our rates for exporting a car to Spain, from the export document to the BPM refund service. Below them you will find the costs that come with registration in Spain. Those are not paid to us, but to the Spanish authorities.
- Price always confirmed in advance
- Cash or bank transfer
- Spanish costs explained separately
from €50
Bringing a car from the Netherlands to Spain costs money on both sides: in the Netherlands for deregistration, plates and insurance, and in Spain for the inspection, the taxes and registration. This page keeps the two clearly apart. Our rates apply at our RDW-recognised export desk in Hengelo; the Spanish costs are paid to the authorities there.
Our rates: which export package fits your journey
The package you need depends on how the car travels:
- The car is driven to Spain: the complete package from €150, with export document, indemnification certificate, 14 days of insurance, Green Card and white plates.
- The car goes on a transporter: the export document from €50 is usually enough.
- The car is already deregistered: export insurance with white plates from €100.
The export document includes the export certificate (kentekenbewijs deel II), the indemnification certificate and processing with the RDW. If registration takes longer, each export insurance extension costs from €120 per 14 days. The BPM refund service has a fixed rate of €149. If you arrange everything remotely, the postal rates from the table apply on top. All rates, including postal delivery and caravans or trailers, are in the tables.

How our prices work
- Desk prices are starting prices (the BPM refund service has a fixed fee), including VAT where applicable, and apply during office hours: Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 16:30.
- On Sundays we are open by appointment at a higher rate: call or WhatsApp first for the final price. A surcharge may apply outside office hours.
- The additional rates are guide prices. A written price confirmation for your vehicle, route, start date and shipping always takes precedence.
- You always know the price in advance. You can pay in cash or by bank transfer.
When the price is higher than the starting price
Desk rates apply during office hours, Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:30. The price can be higher:
- outside office hours, and on Sundays, when we open by appointment;
- for postal delivery, with the same rate for the Netherlands and abroad;
- for heavy or unusual vehicles, such as a motorhome, van or truck over 2,500 kg;
- for a vehicle with foreign documents, only after checking them.
If the car is already in Spain, we can still arrange the export, through a procedure that runs entirely by post; the postal rates from the table then apply, and you know the price in advance. A written price confirmation always counts. You can pay in cash or by bank transfer.
Registration tax and other costs in Spain
Registration in Spain brings its own costs. We do not calculate or collect them, but this is what to expect:
- DGT fee (tasa 1.1): 99.77 euro, according to the DGT.
- Registration tax IEDMT: standard rate 0 percent up to 120 g/km CO2, 4.75 percent below 160 g/km, 9.75 percent below 200 g/km and 14.75 percent from 200 g/km, on the value from the Spanish tax tables. Regions may set their own rates.
- Road tax IVTM: annual, paid to the town hall where the owner lives; the amount differs per municipality.
- ITV inspection before registration: the price depends on the station.
- ITP: transfer tax if you bought the car from a private seller.
- VAT: only if the car counts as new, meaning under 6 months old or no more than 6,000 km.
- If needed: a ficha reducida when the CoC is missing, and a gestoría if you hand over the registration.
After that come Spanish number plates and Spanish insurance. The procedure itself is on registering a car in Spain.
How to avoid extra costs when registering an imported car
A few decisions in advance save money. If the CoC is with the papers, no ficha reducida is needed. Apply for registration within 30 days of starting to use the car in the country, because after that the use itself becomes taxable. If you move with your own car, the relocation exemption may apply, with a 60-day limit. And to reclaim BPM, the car must be registered there within 13 weeks of deregistration, so book the ITV inspection and Tráfico straight after you arrive.

Questions about prices and costs for Spain
What is the total cost of bringing a Dutch car to Spain?
With us, from €50 for the export document up to from €150 for the complete package. In Spain you add the DGT fee of 99.77 euro, the IEDMT registration tax, the ITV inspection, the IVTM road tax and sometimes ITP or a gestoría. Because the IEDMT depends on CO2 emissions and value, the total varies widely from car to car.
Is VAT included in your rates?
Yes, VAT is included where applicable. They are starting prices; only the BPM refund service has a fixed rate. You always know the price for your vehicle in advance.
When will I pay more than the starting price?
Outside office hours, for postal delivery, and for heavy or unusual vehicles such as a motorhome, van or truck over 2,500 kg. A written price confirmation for your vehicle is always what counts.
Cash or transfer: how are the export papers paid for?
At the desk you can pay in cash or by bank transfer. An extension of the export insurance is paid by bank transfer, and only after we have confirmed the insurer's approval and the price.
Do Spanish taxes go through you?
No. The owner declares the IEDMT to the Spanish tax agency, the IVTM goes to the town hall and the fee to the DGT. We do not file any declarations in Spain; the owner does that personally or through a gestoría.
